Context
Thirty North is a GST/HST threshold tracker I built for Canadian freelancers who sell to US and other foreign clients. It helps with a timing problem: foreign-client work can still count toward Canada’s C$30,000 small-supplier tests, including many zero-rated services. Freelancers need to track those sales to understand when registration may be required.

Overview
I designed and built the browser-based tracker, English and French pages, guides, and paid Action Kit and Quarterly Workspace. The free tracker works without an account or invoice uploads.
The tool calculates the amounts you enter. It does not classify your work or replace individualized tax advice.
What shipped
- Threshold tracker: single-quarter and four-quarter C$30,000 tests, with estimates that update as entries change
- Local data: entries stay in the browser, with no account or invoice upload required for the free tracker
- Workspace: add supplies, classify rows, import CSV files, and export records for review
- Published assumptions: CRA references, review dates, and exclusions alongside the calculations
- Guides: explanations of worldwide taxable supplies, including many zero-rated exports
- Paid tools: Action Kit and an offline Quarterly Workspace, sold through Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record
- Bilingual pages: Canadian English and French routes
Free tools
The site also has free tools for sales tax, the Québec Quick Method, place-of-supply screening, registration and filing deadlines, instalments, late-filing penalties, return calculations, foreign-currency invoice conversion, and invoice requirement checks. Implementation
The app uses React and Vite. The site brings together the interactive tracker, paid tools, and guides, with Schema.org organization markup, analytics consent, skip links, and pages explaining delivery, refunds, privacy, and terms.
Product decisions
The main decisions were to keep the free tracker’s data in the browser, support English and French throughout, and show the calculation’s assumptions and limits. The paid tools add planning and record-keeping features around that core.
