Context
Thirty North is my latest shipped product: a GST/HST threshold tracker for Canadian freelancers who sell to US and foreign clients. The core problem is timing — foreign-client work can still count toward Canada’s C$30,000 small-supplier tests even when people believe the service is zero-rated. Missing the window changes registration obligations.

Overview
I designed and built the full product surface end to end: private in-browser tracker, bilingual EN/FR experience, educational guides, and a product library (free tracker + paid Action Kit / Quarterly Workspace / bundle) with clear legal and delivery boundaries.
The product philosophy is intentional limits: it calculates what you enter; it does not classify your work or replace individualized tax advice.
What shipped
- Dual-threshold reading: single-quarter and four-quarter C$30,000 tests with a live estimate UI
- Private by default: entries stay in the browser — no account, no invoice upload for the free tracker
- Operational workspace: add supplies, classify rows, import CSV, export/download review artifacts
- Trust framing: “based on CRA guidance,” review dates, explicit exclusions, and merchant-of-record checkout via Lemon Squeezy
- Content system: guides that explain the rule freelancers miss (worldwide taxable supplies, including many zero-rated exports)
- Commercial layer: Action Kit and offline quarterly workspace as paid workflow products layered on the free tool
- Bilingual: full EN-CA / FR-CA alternate routes and locale handling
Free entry points
The live product offers a growing set of no-sign-up starting points in English and French — threshold tracking, sales-tax and Québec Quick Method calculators, place-of-supply screening, registration and filing deadlines, instalments, late-filing penalties, return-line arithmetic, foreign-currency invoice conversion, and invoice requirement checks. Stack & craft
Modern React/Vite RSC-style app with strong product IA: hero → insight strip → interactive tool → packaged offers → educational limits → guides. Schema.org organization markup, analytics consent, skip links, and policy pages (delivery, refunds, privacy, terms) treat trust as product infrastructure.
Why it belongs on this site
Thirty North is the clearest current proof of how I ship: ideation → durable product → honest constraints → mass-usable deployment. Same muscles as institutional platforms — privacy, clarity, bilingual delivery, and operators who need early warning — applied to a focused Canadian product.
